Welcome to Highlandpiping. Since 1968, Highlandpiping has provided Professional Great Highland Bagpipers (GHB) and Dancers throughout the United States with Bagpipers and Dancers located in Michigan, Ohio, and Washington.

The Five Pipers (brothers – Marty, Scott, Tyge, Clifford, Dean) and One Highland Dancer (sister – Laura) were introduced to the world of highland piping and dancing by Scottish immigrants and family friends Donald and Jock MacLellan.

They all began taking bagpiping or dancing lessons from several local instructors at the ripe old age of 8 and attended numerous Scottish performing arts schools where they had received personal tutoring from Scotland’s leading pipers of the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming. Capt. John A. MacLellan MBEPM John MacKenzie, Ian, John MacFadyen, Seamus MacNeil and  Archie Cairns. The brothers also had the honor of meeting Alex Duthart and JL MacKenzie at these events.

Preforming at the Highland Competitions where some of the most memorable achievements. The brothers placed 1st in many of the USA and Canada competitions. The first and second oldest brothers (Marty and Scott) took 1st and 3rd place respectively in the North American solo bagpipe competition held at Maxville Canada.

The brothers had the honor of performing Amazing Grace with singer Andy Williams and instrumentalist Quincy Jones on their world tour.

Hiring A Bagpiper

How to find a good sounding bagpiper and what to budget for.

Grade levels for pipers are grade 5 (beginner) through grade 1 (very experienced) and “Open”. Open is the highest level of piping a Bagpiper can reach.

Two important questions one should always ask before hiring a bagpiper.

  1. What level do you (bagpiper) currently compete in?
Our answer: Grade 1/Open is the level our pipers compete in. https://highlandpiping.com/Before-Hiring
  2. Do you (bagpiper) have any recordings of you piping that we can hear?
    Our answer: Yes. https://highlandpiping.com/Recordings

We understand everyone has a budget and we are very flexible with our pricing.

A Memorable and Joyous Event

The sound of Bagpipes, as guests arrive at your wedding, is a clear statement that an exciting and major event is about to take place.

We always have two sets of Bagpipes. The Great Highland Bagpipes (GHP) and Fireside Bagpipes. The GHP are the Bagpipes most people are familiar with. These are great for “open space” areas, whereas the Fireside Bagpipers were developed specifically for “close space” areas.
